In contrast to fixed offsets, which are to be parameterised at the display element level, traffic-dependent couplings between traffic streams fall under the term preflow control. Lead control works differently for traffic streams of the type "motor vehicles" and for traffic streams of the type "bicycles, pedestrians and public traffic".

Lead control for traffic streams of the type motor vehicle

Figure 73: Traffic streams of the type motor vehicle

Lead control for traffic streams of the motor vehicle type involves traffic-dependent offset control. This means that the offset is only controlled to a limited extent. In contrast to the fixed offsets OE and OB, which are always taken into account when the assigned display element is green, the main difference is that the advance is only given if the traffic stream TS_dep (TSb) is not requested.

The green start of TS_decis (TSa) is calculated so that TS_dep (TSb) switches to green with the specified offset time. In addition, the traffic streams TSconf that are in conflict with TS are kept as long as possible. The green component resulting from the advance control for TSconf is taken into account so that the green duration of TSconf at full load does not exceed the maximum green time 2.

Lead control for traffic streams of the type bicycles, pedestrians and public transport

Figure 74: Type bicycle, pedestrian or public transport

A head start for traffic streams of the bicycle, pedestrian or public transport type is a traffic-dependent head start, or pre-start, so that a bus, for example, can pull out of its bus stop bay before a parallel traffic stream of motor vehicles. Pedestrians can also be given a pre-start in the same way. In contrast to the fixed offsets OE and OB, which are always taken into account when the assigned display element is green, it is important that the pre-start is only given if the traffic stream TS_decis (TSa) is requested.
