By specifying a second traffic stream, the authoritative traffic stream (forwarding from) transmits a request to the second, dependent traffic stream (forwarding to) at the parameterised time (forwarding type). Only requests that have been made to the authoritative traffic stream by detectors assigned to it are forwarded. All other requests such as green flag, transfer received, etc. are not forwarded. This coupling has no further effect.

The forwarding of a request applies in particular to double pedestrian crossings. The request for the 2nd partial pedestrian crossing must be parameterised accordingly so that the second one is registered when the first ford turns green. The walking times are checked as an additional function of this parameterisation for the DPED traffic stream type.
